Winter is in full swing here and the negative temperatures will be here for the rest of the week. Nothing is better than a cozy bowl of soup by the fire on a cold day. Here are some of my favorite cozy cold-weather soups to warm you up this winter.

Cozy Cold Weather Soups Always Start with Bone Broth

I love using a homemade bone broth base for all my soups. The added protein, collagen, and vitamins it provides are perfect for fighting off winter colds and flu. Plus it provides a delicious flavor you just do not get with store-bought broths and bouillon cubes.

Wholesome Butternut Squash Soup

First, if you are looking for something creamy this is it! The combination of bacon with the natural sweetness of a roasted butternut squash is a match made in heaven. Pair this with a grilled cheese sandwich in some homemade bread for the perfect cozy comfort food.

Chicken and Dumplings Soup

This classic soup is sure to provide the warming effect you are looking for on a bitter-cold day. The best part is that it is so simple to make. It all cooks in one pot including our family’s favorite the dumplings! I love to make this soup for dinner and have the leftovers for lunch the next day.

Bone Broth Chili

If you are looking to spice things up a bit then this Bone Broth Chili will surely hit the spot. While traditional chili can be on the thicker side my bone broth chili is more of a soup thanks to the bone broth making it a lighter option.

Homemade Zuppa Toscana

Because absolutely nobody needs to be driving to Olive Garden in inclement weather here is a homemade option of a classic soup. Plus I like to think that this is also a healthier version of the best soup in Olive Garden’s menu. I love to make this alongside an Artisan Boule for a perfect cozy cold weather soup experience. This one is truly a hug in a bowl.

Kitchen Favorites

As I wrote this blog post I noticed a couple of things that always make an appearance in my pictures. Here are some of my most beloved kitchen tools ones I used to make these cozy cold weather soups along with many other dishes. Please remember that if you follow the link I do make a small commission at no extra cost to you!

  • Dutch Oven– I use my Dutch Oven for many different tasks and it is almost always my go-to to make soups and sauces. What makes it great for this task is that it holds the heat evenly while simmering liquids.
  • Blend Tec Blender– If you like to cook a high-power blender is truly a great investment. Not only does it make really smooth smoothies like the one in my healthy pregnancy snacks list. It is also great to blend up soups like my butternut squash soup into a smooth consistency.
  • Mason Jars– I love using mason jars to store things in my kitchen. While I do not can, at least not yet, I do like storing soups and sauces in mason jars to save space in my fridge. Also, I like that they are a great way to organize my pantry to keep mice out in the winter.
  • Wire racks– Wire racks are great for cooling baked goods but also to keep your counters and table from damage from hot Dutch Ovens and Cast Iron Skillets
  • Kitchen Aid Mixer– I love using my Kitchen Aid to make everything from cookies, to sourdough pizza, and sandwich bread. Is it possible to make all of those without it? Absolutely, but why would you want to?
