Eating can become complicated during pregnancy. Often I feel, nauseous, and experience loss of appetite or heartburn. Or worse I crave all the unhealthy things I can usually say not to. These healthy pregnancy snacks are some of my favorite ones.

Yogurt and Banana Rice Cakes
If you have a sweet tooth these rice cakes will curve the itch to reach out for those rice crispy treats or cookies. They are simple enough to make and are a great way to get some protein in.
Start with a lightly salted rice cake do not get the flavored kind. Add about a 1/4 cup of plain Greek yogurt and a sliced banana on top. Usually, the banana is sweet enough but if I really want a treat I add a bit of honey.

Veggies and Healthy French Onion Dip
So I have a confession I love junk food. Chips and dip yum! However, I also know that I have to set an example for my children and create healthy habits for them. This starts in the womb believe it or not. Studies have shown that the baby can taste what you eat through the amniotic fluid. Therefore babies start developing a sense of taste long before birth.
To make this healthy substitute for chips and dip, I start with some crunchy vegetables. My favorites are English cucumbers, sugar snap peas, baby carrots, and red or yellow bell peppers. Making the dip is simple enough, instead of using sour cream, I use Greek yogurt. I prefer full-fat yogurt, but feel free to use fat-free. To a cup of Greek yogurt add a teaspoon of onion powder, garlic powder, half a teaspoon of dried parsley, pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix it and enjoy this healthy snack!

Apple Pecan Cottage Cheese
Moving on to something sweet again, don’t worry it is still a healthy snack. I always try to add protein to all the snacks I eat, this snack is no exception. Start with cottage cheese, about a cup more or less. Dice an apple I usually use half and give the other half to my toddler. Chop a little less than a quarter cup of whole pecans and top it off with a bit of maple syrup and a dash of cinnamon. I love this when I just need something to pick me up in the afternoon.

Green Smoothie
Sometimes I just need something refreshing and hydrating. This green smoothie is perfect for that! I like to use coconut water to add natural electrolytes to my smoothie. Along with the coconut water, I add greens like kale, spinach, cucumber, celery, green grapes, and frozen fruit.

Eggs and Avocado Toast
Avocado toast has become a trendy meal in many cafes and diners. I don’t know if it is because I am Mexican but I grew up eating this for breakfast my entire life. Add a fried egg for protein and you have a delicious meal.
