So after about a three-month, unintended, but well-deserved time off social media and blogging, I am back trying to pick up where I left off what seems like a lifetime ago. After all, I have a homebirth and remodeling story to tell.

Homebirth Among Remodeling Chaos
First, I am happy to announce we have a sixth son, to whoever cares enough to read this. He was born at the beginning of February, a week before his due date. This meant that our Master Bedroom Remodel wasn’t done. However, birth happens and we managed just fine even if it wasn’t quite the blissful birth I had imagined.

I am so thankful for another healthy baby and a wonderful birth. No, I was not always this positive about it. Speaking candidly, yes, I had more than one meltdown in the early weeks about being a terrible mom for having my baby on a “construction site”. I will be making a separate post about his birth for those who might be interested.
Remodel Update
First, let me say that I thought we would have made more progress and be almost done with our remodel. However, it turns out that adding a sixth member to our brood has taken more adjustment than we anticipated. That being said the master bedroom is almost done and our bathroom is well let’s say it is getting there.

When a homebirth interrupts your remodeling project
I will be frank with whoever is reading this. This has been a challenging time for me. It is extremely annoying to know you are maybe a week from getting a project done and having to put it off indefinitely. Not only that but having to look at it every day? The constant reminder can feel like a failure.

I don’t know about you, but I love a neat, pretty space. I have been working towards that for what seems the past ten years. Trust me. when I say there have been many times, the biggest determent has been our lack of finances. I think we can all relate to our wallet not being as full as our Pinterest board. Sometimes the budget is there and there is no time.
How to deal with remodeling and a new baby
On a more positive note, I have good news. My baby doesn’t seem to have noticed the chaos around him or that our shower isn’t finished yet. He is all too happy in his wrap to be bothered by much. Which by the way is the secret to navigating the fourth trimester like a pro.

As for me, I have prioritized rest over pushing to get our project done. At least for now. I will say now that our son is 3 months I am itching to get back on track. I am trying to say that you do life a day at a time. There are some great days and some bad days. Finding the time to enjoy the little moments even when the house looks like it went through a storm is key.
Function over Aesthetics
Lastly, yes, I do so want my home to be beautiful and worthy of being on someone’s Pinterest Board. However, for now, I have to focus on the fact that we have a comfortable place to live even if it is somewhat unfinished. The memories do not stop because your project came to a halt. An aesthetic home is something to aspire to but not something to live for.

So be encouraged! I promise you are not the only one who started a project and ran out of money or time! It will get done, and sometimes perspective is all that is needed.
